WHAT DIVISION IS RIGHT FOR MY CHILD?
2024 LITTLE LEAGUE SOFTBALL AGE CHART
(All ages mentioned below refer to this age chart)
4/5 Beginner Softball/Baseball
This league is for girls and boys playing the game of softball/baseball for the first time. A tee will be used for all batters and the entire lineup will bat every inning. Teams will switch from offense to defense after the entire lineup has batted. The game will last two innings. Tee Ball is the entry level division for players, ages 4-5. The experience is grounded in fun, fitness, and fundamentals while also being a key to growing a child’s love for the game. Every player bats off of a tee and every player plays in the field each inning. If the defensive team makes a play to record an out, the offensive player who gets out will go back to the dugout like in traditional softball/baseball.
Tee Ball players use bats and softer balls (baseballs and softballs) designated specifically for use in this division. The roster size for a Tee Ball team averages 9-11 players, with a season featuring 1-2 practices per week with games played primarily on weekdays. There are no wins or losses at this level.
Equipment Needed: Glove, batting helmet, bat, cleats
5/6 Intro Softball/Baseball
Coach Pitch is one division up from Tee Ball for players, ages 5-6. The experience is grounded in fun, fitness, and fundamentals while also being a key to growing a child’s love for the game. The primary difference from tee-ball is that each player bats off of pitches thrown from their coach. If the ball is not put into play after 4-5 pitches, the player will be allowed to hit off of a tee. If the defensive team makes a play to record an out, the offensive player who gets out will go back to the dugout like in traditional softball/baseball.
The roster size for an Intro team averages 9-11 players, with a season featuring 1-2 practices per week with games played on weekdays and weekends. There are no wins or losses at this level.
Equipment Needed: Glove, batting helmet, bat, cleats, fielding mask (softball only)
